I hadn’t swum since my school days (sadly a very long time ago) and my goal was to complete the 1.5km sea-swim as part of a team in the Croyde Ocean Tri – a VERY daunting prospect for me!
I worked with James one to one primarily in the pool where he took my so called front crawl technique and transformed it! He was very clear, detailed and massively encouraging in his coaching. His knowledge and skill of swimming were clear to see but James always made me feel confident and relaxed, hence the sessions were great fun.
Once the sea had warmed up we ditched the pool. I was really surprised how the coldness of the water massively affected my breathing but with James and his guidance by my side he gave me the confidence and the techniques to succeed.
James is a natural coach - patient, humorous, hugely knowledgeable and highly effective in his coaching delivery. Without James, what was at first a very scary challenge became very achievable and I’m planning on doing it again next year!
It goes without saying that I would 100% recommend James as your swim coach.

"I worked with James for about 6 months. The initial goal was to lose a little bit of weight but more importantly get back into exercise again. For many years I was relatively fit but I had let things slip for about two years and despite gym membership I was finding my motivation for exercise was somewhat lacking. Working with James allowed me to tone up nicely for my beach holiday as a well as feel fit enough to take on some sporting challenges such as tough mudders and the odd 10K run. This is something I’ve never done before or even thought I could.
James is very chatty which helps you feel comfortable when working out. He gives you good challenges and puts fair but tough exercise programs together. My favourite sessions were our ‘out and about’ sessions, which I guess is where I found a new love of running!
Above everything else James listens carefully to what you want to achieve. He will work with with you to succeed in your goals and will also make it fun."
“When James moved from the fast lane to the poolside there was concern from the swim-mortals that he may have unrealistically high expectations of our abilities. However, we found him extremely encouraging, his relaxed coaching style created a friendly atmosphere. Many factors contribute to a poor technique but James was able to identify the key weakness, explain how it interacted with other faults and suggest how to improve. "I have taken part in many 10k runs and my friend and I decided we wanted to push ourselves and do a half marathon. I contacted James at Time-2-Tri-Fitness as I needed some guidance as to how to tackle the training properly.
We had an initial meeting to talk through my fitness history and my hopes for the run. James also wanted to know how much and when I was able to train. He took the time to explain what would be required and that it would not just be running, it would include core activities too. He subsequently emailed me a detailed training plan that fitted around my work and family life taking into account everything we had discussed.

"IF YOU WANT ACHIEVABLE SUCCESS THE JAMES IS YOUR MAN! I, like many others, have long been on the diet/exercise rollercoaster ! There's not many I've not tried, all with limited periods of success. WHY ? Well, I believe they focus in the wrong areas and are driven by commercial demands. I asked James for some simple advice on where I was going wrong - being a Yorkshireman I knew he would be forthright and honest in is appraisal of my needs. What happened was, after a chat about my eating habits and exercise regime, was James produced a personal programme for me that included not only when best to eat but also how hard to exercise. Believe it or not, I had been working too hard and it was having a detrimental effect on my efforts.
In just 4 months I have gradually lost almost 1st 10oz and I have not felt hungry but more importantly I look forward to the gym with relish - it is no longer a chore buts something I actually look forward to.
